Dear visitor, Several sections of our site have been translated for your convenience. You can access them via the links below. Dear visitor to our little “Clos du Bonheur” (enclosure of happiness) at Villers-la-Vigne, Thank you for your interest in our passion for winemaking in Belgium. Our greatest wish is to share with you our joy in caring for the 800 vines nestled within the enclosed stone walls of the beautiful abbey of Villers-la-Ville. Quality without compromise is the guiding principle of the men and women of Villers-la-Vigne who nurture the three red and white grape varieties in the vineyard and who craft expressive red, white and rosé wines in the cellar. In essence, we act as responsible stewards of the land in respect to its terroir, its sustainable development and the environment. Imagine this magical place inside the ruins of a majestic Cistercian abbey, Villers Abbey, itself a major historical and cultural monument in Wallonia. Imagine a group of friends who welcome you to its beautiful terraced vineyard and its prestigious winery across the cobbled road, a setting steeped in history and innovation. Imagine products of surprising quality that fill your glasses with sunshine under a magnificent Brabant sky. Pass through the hulking metal door and enter unexpectedly onto a secluded garden of happiness, a veritable diamond among the Belgian vineyards. This is where the Villers winemakers find themselves amidst the flowering rows of Regent, Phoenix and Muscaris grapevines for twenty or more Saturdays a year. Add to this a choir of winemakers who sing Medieval and Renaissance songs, annual study voyages to wine regions of neighbouring countries, guided tours of our vineyard and cellar(year-round, with or without reservations), enduring friendships with twinned vineyards across Belgium and an annual soirée within the Cistercian abbey – the highly anticipated “Jazz au Vignoble” event. No, you are not dreaming . . . you are at Villers-la-Vigne. Christophe Waterkeyn La Confrérie du Vignoble de l’abbaye de Villers-en-Brabant (the association of the vineyard at Villers Abbey in Brabant) offers year-round guided tours of its vineyard and winery followed by a tasting. This visit to Villers-la-Vigne vineyard can, if desired, be combined with admission to the majestic ruins of the Villers Abbey. The guided tour of the vineyard begins with a quick history of wine and its arrival in our region, particularly with the Cistercian monks at the Abbey of Villers-la-Ville. The tour continues with an explanation of our current vineyard practices. From the selection of grape varieties to the planting, pruning and cultivation of the vines our methods are guided by the association’s belief in good stewardship of the land and respect for the environment. The objectives, activities and membership details of the Confrérie (association) are also presented. In the winery we learn how today’s Confrérie turns grapes into wine. The visit ends with a Villers-la-Vigne wine tasting in a complimentary glass bearing the logo of our association which is offered as a souvenir.
